Ramallah- Al Haya Economic - The National Beverage Company Coca-Cola/Cappy (NBC) and Ramallah Municipality organized visits to Ramallah primary schools that participate in “My City Is Clean” Project for Environment Awareness. The Project targets primary school students in several private and public schools, and other schools of United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) during the school year 2021/2022. The visits included series of activities with the students, in addition to distribution of water flasks and lunch boxes to students who participated in the Project. The purpose of such activities is to raise awareness about reduction of solid waste production and showing their damage on the environment.
Mr. Imad al-Hindi, General Manager of the National Beverage Company Coca-Cola/Cappy, said that the objective of NBC sponsorship for My City Is Clean Project for Environment Awareness is due to its fundamental interest and its social responsibility to protect the Palestinian environment”. He explained that the campaign targets approximately 8000 male and female students of the elementary stage to raise their awareness about the importance of environment conservation and the necessity to enhance health practices in the society.
Mr. al-Hindi expressed his pride of the partnership with Ramallah Municipality, and pointed out that such projects and initiatives are important to improve the social conditions. “The Company has continuously endeavored in its factories to develop projects, means and practices that can conserve the Palestinian environment”, he added. The Company earned several awards in this regards, the last of which was the Golden Award at the level of Eurasia and Middle East attained during the competition organized by Coca-Cola Company, (Quality, Food Safety, Occupational Safety and Environment Safety) for the project of “Environment Protection and Reduction of Energy Consumption”.
On her part, Ms. Malvina Al Jamal, Head of the Health and Environment Department in Ramallah, expressed her pride of the strategic partnership between the Municipality and NBC in the implementation of environmental awareness projects in Ramallah. “Such projects can enhance the environmental awareness among students of Ramallah Schools and will contribute to achieve Ramallah Municipality’s vision towards environment-friendly city”, she said.
The project included an intensive program for the students aged 6 and 11 years. The program included a number of events and activities as forums and campaigns for cultivation of winter seeds, in addition to teaching the students how to carry out seedling and planting. The project included the implementation of cleaning campaigns and forums to raise the awareness on cleaning and its importance in the society. In addition, the project included group healthy breakfasts, performance of environmental activities and games, and environmental drawing competitions that aim at raising environment awareness among the students and how to conserve the environment.
It is noteworthy that NBC and Ramallah Municipality singed, in October 2021, an agreement whereby NBC sponsors “My City Is Clean” Project for Environmental Awareness for the school year 2021/2022.
