Ramallah Municipality and National Beverage Company Sign Sponsorship Agreement for “My City is Clean” Environmental Awareness Project




 

Ramallah-Alhayat Economic - Ramallah Municipality, represented by its President Eng. Mousa Hadid, signed an agreement with the National Beverage Company Coca-Cola /Cappy (NBC), represented by its General Manager Mr. Imad Al-Hindi, to provide sponsorship for “My City is Clean” Environmental Awareness Project for the academic year 2021/2022.

 

The Project consists of a range of activities and live events involving elementary level students in Ramallah schools. The Project aims at raising the environmental awareness, and achieving a positive change in daily practices towards the environment, through environmental awareness activities carries by the students based on their age group and in alignment with the environmental topics brought up throughout the academic year.

 

During the signing of the Agreement, Eng. Hadid said “Ramallah Municipality is aims- through environmental awareness programs - at promoting environmental and health awareness among young generations in the city’s schools. It aims as well at achieving a change in the daily practices of thousands of male and female students from various classes towards the environment, both, in Ramallah public and private schools as well as the UNRWA schools”.

 

Eng. Hadid also thanked the National Beverage Company for its constant support to environmental awareness projects and its partnership with the Municipality in promoting environmental awareness through their support to “My City is Clean” project. He pointed out that through this Agreement; Ramallah is translating its orientation towards the private sector as partner in supporting community projects as part of its national responsibility, which contributes in promoting the concept of partnership between the local government sector and the private sector.

 

On his part, Mr. al-Hindi expressed his pride in sponsoring “My City is Clean” project for environmental awareness” together with Ramallah Municipality in spite of the surrounding health condition of Corona Virus Pandemic. He confirmed that the Company is keen to participate through its social responsibility in promoting the environmental education and awareness in the Palestinian community. This is similar to the awareness project in Ramallah elementary schools, which contributes to instilling sound environmental values in the young generations from early age, and teaching them that paying respect to environment, its resources and elements provide them and others with a better life in future.

 

Mr. al-Hindi commended the firm complementary and participatory relationship that binds the Company with Ramallah Municipality, which is based on joint work aiming to realize the principle of development and advancement of community. He valued the important role played by the municipality in adopting meaningful and constructive local and community projects that contribute in developing the citizen daily life aspects.

 

Mr.al-Hindi confirmed that the Company has been keen - since its establishment - to promote environmental culture and apply the highest global and local quality standards, in addition to its commitment to apply the highest environmental standards within the Company’s factories during work practice in order to preserve the Palestinian environment and its natural resources.

 

It is worth noting that “My City is Clean Project for Environmental Awareness”, which is organized for the eleventh consecutive year, is targeting - in the current phase - approximately 8000 students from the age group 6 – 11 years, from various public and private schools, in addition to schools of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Ramallah city.

 

The project is characterized with an intensive program, which is rich and useful at the same time. It includes variant activities and events, such as environmental games, seed planting, clean-up campaigns, environment – related contests, solid-waste reuse and many other activities.

 

It is worth mentioning that the National Beverage Company Coca-Cola is the first company in the field of national food and beverage in Palestine. Since its establishment, it has been keen to commit to the international standards of food safety, and to preserve energy and environment protection in its headquarters and factories, in addition to its commitment to citizens’ health and safety.

 

The Company received various certificates along with global and local awards in the field of environmental safety and food quality, such as the Certificate of Food Safety Management System, Certificate of Quality Management System and Certificate of Occupational Safety Management, in addition to the Certificate of Palestinian Standards and Specifications from Palestine Standards Institution. The National Beverage Company Coca- Cola also passed the “The Best Ten Challenge” concerned with energy saving at the level of Coca-Cola companies in the region, besides to selecting Coca- Cola factory as the best factory applying the environmental regulations.
