Organized by Coca-Cola Eurasia and Middle East, The National Beverage Company wins the Gold Prize for its Environment Preservation and Energy Rationalization Project

Ramallah – The Team of the National Beverage Company Coca-Cola/Cappy (NBC) won the Gold Prize for its Environment Preservation and Energy Rationalization Project as the best project under the “Value-added” Category in the Competition of Quality and Food Safety, Occupational and Environmental Safety, organized by Coca-Cola Eurasia and Middle East.

The Project presented by NBC outperformed 18 other projects from 15 different countries participating in this Competition. It is an innovative project for saving the energy during the production process, raising the production effectiveness, and maintaining the product quality. The Company has utilized the hot air emitted from the compressed-air saving compressor in Ramallah Plant in heating carbon dioxide and transforming it from liquid into gas without using an external source of energy.

The projects presented in this Competition were assessed by a quality, environment, and sustainability team. The Competition included three different categories of prizes. The first category is about the teams’ activities through innovative applications implemented under the Product Quality, Occupational Safety, and Environmental Preservation System. The second category won by the Team of NBC is relating to adding a value by reducing the costs or time under the Food Quality and Safety and Occupational and Environmental Safety System. The third category is for the inspiration and excellence.

Mr. Imad al-Hindi, General Manager of NBC, expressed his pleasure and pride for winning this Prize and ascertained that this Prize was the culmination of efforts exerted by the Company’s staff to provide products with the best quality. He also stated that the Prize confirmed the constant development and creation of the Company and its staff. Al-Hindi also congratulated every person in NBC for this achievement and thanked them for their giving, creation, and loyalty.

Mr. al Hindi emphasized the importance of this Prize won by the Company; it reflects the great efforts exerted by the Company and its staff to continuously maintain and apply the best international standards for energy rationalization and environment preservation in our headquarters and plants. This is a part of our endeavor to leave a health clean environment clear of harmful pollutants and emissions for next generations.

It is worth noting that the Project introduced by the Company is based on utilizing the hot air emitted from the compressed-air saving compressor of the Plant in heating carbon dioxide and transforming it from liquid into gas without using any external source of energy. This Project solves the problem of freezing the carbon dioxide line in the Plant. The gas is rapidly transformed into solid; especially at night and in the winter. The supply of gas for production is hindered, confused, and suspended and the production effectiveness is reduced due to the freezing of gas supply pipelines. Consequently, sources of energy like electricity are used to resume the natural supply of gas.

The Project mainly aims to save energy and preserve the environment by saving approximately 560 kilowatt per day. In addition, it enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of production lines and maintains the quality through the continuous and regular supply of carbon dioxide to the production lines. This Project also enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of the gas cooling system used in the production.

The purpose of this Competition is to reward the factories and people who work on distinctive projects, applications, and processes which focus on the product quality and employee safety, achieve a positive effect on the surrounding environment, and maintain Coca-Cola Trademark.

It should be noted that this isn’t the first achievement of NBC. The Company got the best performance in 2016 and 2012 among the packaging companies affiliated to Coca-Cola Company in Eurasia and Africa. It outperformed 96 affiliates of Coca-Cola Company in Eurasia and Africa in relation to product quality and energy and water rationalization. The Plant got the highest rank according to the Product Quality and Water and Energy Rationalization Assessment. During the first Conference of Creators held in Palestine in 2015, President/ Mahmoud Abbas honored NBC for its outstanding efforts in rationalizing the energy and water and reducing CO2 emissions during the production processes in its plants. In 2013, the Company could successfully pass the “Top-ten” Energy Saving Challenge which was launched by Coca-Cola Company and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as a part of its efforts to reduce the CO2 emissions throughout Coca-Cola System.
