National Beverage Company Sponsors “Daughters of Canaan” Women’s Football Tournament to Empower Girls and Promote Their Participation in Sports

Ramallah – As part of its commitment to supporting Palestinian sports and empowering young people, particularly girls, National Beverage Company Coca-Cola/Cappy sponsored the “Daughters of Canaan” women’s football tournament, held on Saturday at the Sareyyet Ramallah indoor sports hall. The tournament brought together eight girls’ teams featuring players aged 12 to 16. It aimed to strengthen the presence of Palestinian girls on the football pitch, provide them with opportunities to develop their athletic skills, and showcase their talents.

The tournament featured an exciting and competitive sporting atmosphere, culminating in Baladna Jericho Club being crowned champions of the “Daughters of Canaan” Cup. The participating teams competed in a series of matches that brought together players from different Palestinian governorates, celebrating their abilities while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair competition.

National Beverage Company supported the tournament by providing sportswear for all eight participating teams and their players. This support helped create suitable conditions for competition, encouraged girls to participate in sporting activities and tournaments, and expanded opportunities for them to develop their abilities and refine their talents. The tournament also featured awareness activities marking Pink October, aimed at raising awareness of breast cancer prevention and the importance of early detection. These activities highlighted the role of sports in promoting health awareness and serving the community, in addition to its competitive dimension.

Mr. Imad Al-Hindi, General Manager of National Beverage Company, said that sponsoring the “Daughters of Canaan” tournament reflects the company’s vision and commitment to supporting sporting and community initiatives that empower young people and girls, while highlighting the role of sports in character development and fostering cooperation, a sense of belonging, and teamwork.

Al-Hindi added: “At National Beverage Company, we believe that sports go beyond competition on the pitch. They provide a platform for building self-confidence, discovering talents, and fostering leadership and determination among younger generations. That is why we are committed to supporting initiatives that give Palestinian girls meaningful opportunities to demonstrate their abilities, pursue their ambitions, and strengthen their presence and active participation across various sporting and community fields.”

Al-Hindi also emphasized the importance of providing a supportive and sustainable environment for women’s sports in Palestine by broadening participation and organizing more tournaments and events that enable female athletes to compete, exchange experiences, and develop their skills. He stressed that investing in young people, both boys and girls, is a fundamental pillar in building a more vibrant society that is better equipped to overcome challenges.

For her part, Safieh AbdelHay, coordinator of the “Daughters of Canaan” tournament and a student in the Sports Management Program at Birzeit University’s Continuing Education Center, said: “The ‘Daughters of Canaan’ tournament was the result of our efforts as students in the Sports Management Program at Birzeit University’s Continuing Education Center. It was driven by our belief that sports are not merely about competition on the pitch, but also about creating opportunities, discovering talents, and strengthening girls’ self-confidence and their ability to lead and achieve.

“Through this initiative, we sought to create a sporting platform that brings together girls from different Palestinian governorates, giving them a genuine opportunity to showcase their abilities and strengthening their presence in the Palestinian sporting scene.”

AbdelHay expressed her appreciation to National Beverage Company Coca-Cola/Cappy for sponsoring the tournament and providing sportswear for the participating teams. She noted that the partnership represents an important model of collaboration between national institutions, academic institutions, and students in serving the community.

She added that the organizers were keen to ensure that the tournament carried a humanitarian and health awareness message by linking it to Pink October activities and raising awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection. This, she explained, reaffirmed the ability of sports to create a positive impact that extends beyond the playing field.

AbdelHay continued: “As students seeking to translate academic knowledge into practical experiences with a meaningful community impact, we are proud of this experience, which has demonstrated that youth-led initiatives, when supported through effective partnerships, can make a real difference. We hope that the ‘Daughters of Canaan’ tournament will be a first step toward sustainable initiatives that expand girls’ participation in Palestinian sports and open up greater opportunities for them to excel and achieve their ambitions.”

The sponsorship forms part of National Beverage Company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts and its commitment to supporting initiatives that nurture young talent, promote women’s participation in sports, and foster a culture of sportsmanship and positive engagement. It also reflects the company’s role as an active partner in supporting Palestinian society and empowering its members.
