Ibn Sina Basic School for Boys and Bethlehem Directorate of Educational attain the 1st Position National Beverage Company Coca-Cola/Cappy and Ministry of Education conclude COPA Coca-Cola 2016




Ramallah – the National Beverage Company Coca-Cola/Cappy (NBC) and the Ministry of Education concluded COPA Coca-Cola Palestine Championship, which was supervised by the General Directorate of Student Activities at the Department of Sports Activity and Social Work at the Ministry of Higher Education. The Championship included a nine-a-side tournament for boys of middle schools and a five-a-side tournament for girls of the secondary schools during the first semester of 2016/2017.
 
A ceremony to crown the two winners was held in the presence of Jamal Farhoud, Director of the Department of Sports Activity and Social Work, Aref Asayrah, Head of Sports Activity Section at the Ministry of Education, and Mohammad Moraqtan, Marketing Manager of NBC. The team of Ibn Sina Basic School for Boys, affiliated to South Hebron Directorate of Education, was crowned for the boys’ category and the team of Bethlehem Directorate of Education was crowned for the girls’ category.
 
For the boys’ category, Urif Secondary School for Boys, affiliated to South Nablus Directorate of Education, came in the second position. Mohamad bin Rashid Al Maktoum Secondary School for Boys, affiliated to Ramallah and Al-Bireh Directorate of Education, and Ibn El-Nafis Secondary School for Boys, affiliated to Tubas Directorate of Education, came in the 3rd and 4th positions respectively.
 
For the girls’ category, the team of Jerusalem Directorate of Education came in the 2nd position which Nablus and Jenin Directorates of Education in the 3rd and 4th positions respectively.
 
During the honouring ceremony, the prizes were handed over to the winning teams from both categories. The awards included cups and medals for the first four places in addition to playStation devices which were presented to the winning team that ranked the two first positions for the boys and girls categories, including the coaches and supervisors.  
 
One hundred and fifty schools of boys from various Directorates of Education participated in the first phase of COPA Coca-Cola Championship, whereas each team consisted of 12 players.  The girls’ teams were formed so that each team represents one Directorate of Education, which amount to 17, to participate in the second phase. The championship adopted the system of disqualifying the teams upon the first defeat.
 
Mr. Imad al-Hindi, General Manager of NBC, congratulated the first four winners in the boys and girls categories. He also extended his congratulations to the administrations of the participating schools and directorates. He valued the efforts exerted by the Sport Activity Department at the Ministry of Education to make COPA Coca-Cola championship work every year.
 
Mr. al-Hindi said he is proud of the success of the current tournament where 17 educational directorates across the West Bank participated. He said he hopes that the educational directorates of Gaza Strip can participate in this championship in the upcoming years.
 
Mr. al-Hindi added: “every year, COPA Coca-Cola scouts new talents among the male and female students of the participating schools, which is paramount for us in NBC and the Ministry of Education to develop and cultivate such talents and enable them to receive training in the professional clubs, at the local, Arab, or international levels. Mr. al-Hindi commended the achievements and supreme performance of the boys and girls participating in the championship. He emphasized the importance of encouraging girls to play football, especially that many of the Palestinian female athletes reached honourable levels in local and regional championships and events.
 
On his part, Jamal Farhoud asserted that this championship aimed at scouting the sport talents in our schools and working together to promote them through partnering with the local community, civil society, private sector, and official institutions in addition to guiding such talents toward a better future which benefits the clubs and national teams. Farhoud added that COPA Coca-Cola Palestine events contribute to finding a proper and healthy environment for the school students to spend their spare time and help them on the psychological discharge and handle the pressures which affect the students and the Palestinian society as a whole. He commended the referees who participated in the games during the championship. He valued the devotion of NBC to sponsor such annual championship.
 

 

It is worth noting that this year 150 schools for boys participated in the championship, namely 1,800 players in addition to 17 teams for girls consisting of 170 girls from all the 17 educational directorates across the West Bank; namely the directorates of the northern governorates; Jenin, Qabatiya, Tubas, South Nablus, Qalqilya, and Salfit, the directorates of the middle governorates; Jerusalem, Jerusalem suburbs, Ramallah, and Jericho, as well as the directorates of the southern governorates; Bethlehem, Hebron,  North Hebron, South Hebron, and Yatta.
