The National Beverage Company Coca-Cola/Cappy achieves 2nd Place in the Eurasia and Africa Sustainability Award




Ramallah, Palestine–During the annual sustainability awards ceremony that occurred in Istanbul, Turkey, NBC has won 2nd place in the company wide Sustainability Award, and was recognized as one of the top-scoring companies in the beverage industry among Eurasia and Africa Group based on its excellent performance in sustainability and social responsibility.
 
After Coca-Cola Turkey, which has assumed the first place, NBC has been recognized as an effective role model to the Palestinian economy, society and environment through an outstanding and innovative sustainability practice. The 96 competing bottling Coca- Cola companies were evaluated based on their commitment to sustainability, in the 3 dimensions: Society, Environment and Economy.
 
The assessment jury measure the companies’ practices scoping practices that ensure quality for the consumer through implementing the Coca-Cola, International quality standards and adherence to environmental practices that measurably contribute towards the protection of the environment throughout the production and bottling cycle,in addition to the companies’community programs.
 
“We are honored to have been granted such an important award, that has recognized our continuous efforts to simultaneously generate economic, social and environmental impact in the communities where we operate”, Zahi Khouri, the Chairman of NBC said. “This recognition proves the Palestinian Private Sector’s ability to stand out and effectively participate in the development process despite all the challenges”. 
 “Our pursuit to reinforce our commitment to lead a sustainable business will never lose its vigor; this recognition challenges us to continue improving our sustainability performance across our entire value chain in Palestine and stimulate growth and foster greater investments and contribute in creating developed societies”,Khouri assured.
Khouri expressed his determination on expanding the company’s supply chain in the West Bank and Gaza, believing that NBC can make a tangible contribution in the economy of Palestine.
In turn, Imad Hindi, the General Manager of NBC expressed his gratitude for winning the Award, dedicating this accomplishment for NBC’s team and hardworking employees. “We also credit this accomplishment to a long standing vision of the Company in achieving excellence and best practice as we serve the economy, environment and society. We shall continue to offer the consumer high quality and refreshing beverages prepared by the most skilled Palestinian labor and using the best eco-friendly techniques in all the manufacturing processes”, Hindi.explained on the occasion of the award granting ceremony.
 “Corporate Social Responsibility is a commitment that NBC took upon itself to contribute in improving the Palestinian community well-being; it is a core business strategy of NBC. We believe the decisions we make, and the road we talk can affect a range of other groups and segments in the society; children, youth, women, elderly and orphans”, Hindi concluded.
 
The National Beverage Company Coca-Cola/Cappy has previously won Eurasia and Africa Sustainability Award for 2011 and 2013, as well as the Community Empowerment Award for 2013 in the same year, in addition to select Coca-Colas as Best plant for environmental aspects from Coca-Cola Eurasia and Africa Group; likewise, last year NBC ranked first in Sales and Marketing in the Middles East. NBC was selected as one of the ten best Coca-Cola Bottlers for 2012, in Eurasia and Africa. In 2014, the Company successfully completed The Coca-Cola Company and World Wildlife Fund Top 10 Energy Savings Challenge and won the Coca-Cola Middle East Golden Award of 2013 & 2014 as the best plant at the level of Coca-Cola plants in the Middle East and Arab Gulf region
