Under the Slogan “Jerusalem Brings Us Together” Jerusalem Embraces the “Coca-Cola Mondial” … and Spain Wins the Title

Jerusalem – Pal Sport – Jabal Al-Zaytoon Club organized the Coca-Cola Mondial for Jerusalemite academies for juniors on its playground under the sponsorship of the National Beverage Company Coca Cola/Cappy.”

The participating teams held the names of countries participating in the World Cup Brazil 2014, namely:

Group 1: Germany (the Palestinian Academy for Talented Footballers), Spain (Liqa’ Academy), Portugal (Jabal Al-Zaytoon A). Group 2: Brazil (Al-Hayat Academy – Al-Hilal), Italy (Jabal Al-Zaytoon B), Mexico (Burj Laq Laq Academy).

The results were as follows:

Group 1: Germany defeated Portugal (3/0); the goals were scored by Tareq Warasneh (2) and Ahmad Khaled; Spain defeated Germany (1/0) and Spain defeated Portugal (1/0).  Spain and Germany have qualified for the second round.

Group 2: Mexico defeated Italy (2/0); the goals were scored by Ahmad Joulani and Malek Salim; Brazil defeated Mexico (2/0), the goals were scored by Adham Za’tara and Mohammad Abu Al-Hawa, and Italy defeated Brazil (1/0), the goal was scored by Isa Halaseh. Brazil and Mexico have qualified for the second round.

Accordingly, the winner of group 1 met the runner-up of group 2 and the winner of group 2 met the runner-up of group 1. The results of the second round were as follows:

Germany defeated Mexico (3/0), the goals were scored by Tareq Warasneh (2) and Amir Owaisat; and Spain defeated Brazil in a penalty shoot-out (3/1).

In the final match, Spain defeated Germany (1/0), the only goal was scored by Hammam Abdulla.  The matches were refereed by Mohammad Ebrahim Abu Sbaitan.

At the end of the championship, Wael Al-Zaghal, Procurement and Property Manager at NBC, said “It is an honor for National Beverage Company Coca-Cola/Cappy to sponsor “Coca-Cola Mondial” and to keep supporting sports in Jerusalem.” He also thanked the management of Jabal Al-Zaytoon Club for their efforts to take care of talented juniors in Jerusalem. He added, “There is nothing better than getting raised and raising our children on sport culture … there is nothing as wonderful as our children in Jerusalem sending a message full of activity and energy with the spirit of talent and challenge to the place where the professional footballers of the world will meet. In that global event, the whole world will know that the Israeli occupation will never succeed in destroying their innocence or determination and they will enjoy their childhood just like their peers all over the world in order to completely meet success.”

He also added, “NBC will completely utilize its potential to share this message of hope with all. We will also make every possible effort to promote sport in Jerusalem and to enhance the steadfastness of Jerusalem’s sport clubs.

Finally, he concluded that inaugurating “Coca-Cola Mondial” to coincide with the annual anniversary of Nakba assures the heroic role of the youth and that Jerusalem, the city of steadfastness, as the home of this Mondial, is a clear evidence that Palestinians, whether sponsoring companies, sport clubs or talented athletes, are determined to disseminate their noble message to the whole world, which is: “Even under siege, Palestinians are people who love life and seek success and excellence.

Abdulla Al-Kiswani, President of Jabal Al-Zaytoon Club, delivered a speech in which he thanked Jerusalem’s participating academies and stated that this championship, “Jerusalem Gathers Us,” is a message to everyone regarding the daily violations suffered by the people of the city, he emphasized that he  and the board of Jabal Al-Zaytoon Club are proud of their partnership with NBC and its sponsorship of a Jerusalem school with 200 players. He also praised the company for sponsoring the championship and for providing the trophies and medals in addition to the personal presents given to each player of a ball, rackets and others items holding the company logo.

The closing ceremony was held in the presence of a number of dignitaries and coaches from the participating academies, the delegate of NBC, Wael Al-Zaghal, the president of Jabal Al-Zaytoon Club, Abdulla Al-Kiswani, Sport Supervisor of the Club Mohammad, Hasan Al-Hadrah, Mwaffaq Abu Lafi, Coach Abdo Abu Jum’a, Qudsona Assembly board member, Mofid Jabr, and CEO of Pal Sport, Firas Al-Qaisi.

Spain (Liqa’) won the championship and the cup was delivered by the Director of the academy, Jawad Al-Sabah, while Germany was the runner-up and the cup was delivered by the coach of the academy, Rajab Abu Mayyaleh.

Other awards were as follows:

Best player: Yazan Abu Mayyaleh, Talented Academy

Best goalkeeper: Mahdi Wazwaz

Best goal scorer: Tareq Warasneh

Fair play: Brazil (Al-Hayat Academy), cup delivered by the Academy Director Aasem Jwaihan.

In addition, referee Mohammad Ebrahim Abu Sbaitan and the championship Director Husam Abu Ghannam were honored with trophies presented by NBC.
